2024 SOLAR ECLIPSE
April 8, 2024 will be the next total eclipse of the sun visible in North America, Mexico and Canada. Totality will last up to 4 minutes and 27 seconds depending on the location you are viewing from along the path of totality. But at its longest, this eclipse will be almost double the length of The Eclipse of August 21, 2017.
Beginning in Mexico, the moon’s shadow will initially touch Scorro Island and then travel to the mainland near Mazatlan. Mexico will be graced with the longest view of the eclipse, up to 4 minutes and 27 seconds if you are in Torreon! Durango is another notable viewing spot in Mexico.
Texas will be a prime US location for eclipse chasers, with the major cities of San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth falling in the path of totality. Texas is likely to have good weather and excellent visibility. There are plenty of hotel options and a robust highway system unless relocation is required.
South Central US Cities to enjoy the eclipse after teas include Hot Springs and Little Rock in Arkansas. The path is south of St Louis, so head out and look up to see if you can catch this eclipse in action! If you happen to be in Carbondale Illinois this is also a great location to view the eclipse.
The Midwest has some key metropolitan areas on the path and nearby. Indianapolis, Dayton, Toledo, Cleveland and Akron are all on the path of totality.
New England’s Niagara Falls will be an incredible backdrop for viewing the eclipse if you are located in or around the North Eastern US.Other cities in the path of totality include Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Burlington and Presque Island. Bigger cities within 200 miles of the path (depending on your specific location) include New York City, Boston, Washington DC and Philadelphia. Canada will also get to experience the solar eclipse by way of Montreal, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador. Toronto, Ottawa and Quebec are all within driving distance of the path as well.
